TRAVEL & LEISURE
Park It!
Our Picks for the Best Parks
to Visit This Summer!
BY APRYL CHAPMAN THOMAS
They come in all shapes and sizes, and some are better known than others. One
thing is for certain, amusement and theme parks are as much of a piece of Americana
as movie theatres and diners. Not only do they offer something for everyone — rides,
entertainment, and food that you don’t normally eat at home — but
time spent at parks can generate memories that will last forever.
While there is not an exact count of parks in
the United States, it is safe to believe that you have a plethora of choices
when choosing a theme/ adventure park vacation. However, Disney, Knott’s,
Cedar Point, Legoland and Sesame Place are some that should be on every park
aficionados list.

For 50 years, the mouse and his friends at Disneyland have managed to put a
smile on everyone’s face. Inside the park, you won’t find Skybuckets
or the People Mover anymore, but you will find classic rides such as Pirates
of the Caribbean, Mainstreet U.S.A. Railroad, and Haunted Mansion that still
draw the crowds.
Make sure you check out California Adventures, the newest part of Disneyland.
Built on an old Disneyland parking lot, this theme park is best described as
a representation of the state. If you can only ride one ride, make sure it
is Soarin’, a virtual reality experience that takes you hang-gliding
over the state and such sites as the Golden Gate Bridge and Yosemite.
